Update on Utah eGov

Wow, this is one of the busiest months I can remember for digital government in Utah. The new state of Utah transparency application will come online next week and will allow users to see expenditure made by a state agency. Transparency in government has been a theme sweeping the nation and I think this service may be the best transparency app around. If you've been contemplating getting an iPhone or iPod Touch, here's the announcement that might seal the deal for you. The Utah Hive is Mobile! You can now leave the Hive and still keep up the buzz. Here's how.

Secretary Ken Salazar deserves praise for his bold and responsible plan to care for our nation’s wildhorse and burro populations through utilization of both western rangelands and grassland preserves. His plan would provide due respect and care to these icons of the west while ensuring that healthy herds of animals can thrive on healthy rangelands.

Students invited to create new anti-tobacco ads

Today, the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) urged young minds from all over Utah to craft TV, radio or billboard ads for the 2010 Anti-tobacco Advertising Contest. This year’s contest challenges fourth and fifth graders to “Give us a piece of your mind” and create advertising that will teach their peers the dangers of tobacco use.

Dixie State Plays Host to Two Prep Marching Band Championship Events This Weekend

Dixie State College will host a pair of championship band events this weekend. The festivities kick off Friday, Nov. 6, with the annual Utah Music Educators Association "Red Rocks" Marching Band Competition. The event will feature 2,100 of the state's best high school musicians in the final competition of the Utah marching band season, which has been deemed as the state championship by UMEA.

Utah's Lloyd Pendleton Honored as 2009 Purpose Prize Fellow for Innovation

Lloyd Pendleton has been named a 2009 Purpose Prize fellow, an honor for social entrepreneurs over 60 who are using their experience and passion to take on society’s biggest challenges.

Pendleton, Utah’s Homeless Task Force Director for the Utah Division of Housing and Community Development was named a Fellow for his work in developing and implementing the State of Utah’s 10-Year Action Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.
